MPs in Paris for a Debt Management Benchmarking Forum

Five Kenya MPs and several government representatives are in France since last Saturday for a 2 day debt management forum 23 and 24 of April in Paris, organised under the aegis of the OECD Working Party on Debt Management and financially supported by the Japanese government.

The delegation led by Gatundu MP Moses Kuria include Minority Leader, John Mbadi , Paul Abuor (Rongo), Florence Bore (Kericho) and Gichuki Mugambi (Othaya).

The Forum addressed the following issues:

  • impact of monetary policy developments on government securities markets
  • importance of investor relations for a sustained market access
  • role of stress tests and scenario analyses in debt management
  • perspectives on green and sustainable finance

After the forum, Moses Kuria met yesterday evening with Kenyans in France  where they urged them to invest back home.

With a public debt at its highest level of Ksh 5.8 trillion and yearly  servicing charge of ksh 980 billion the government has to find sustainable ways to finance the debt, one of them is through international remittances by diasporans.

It’s high time for the Kenyan government to realize the importance of the diasporans as they actively participate in the development of our county directly or indirectly. Moses kuria and his colleagues now know the government needs support  from Kenyans living abroad.
